Alienation

I'm on the outside looking in.
I'm not here, I'm a ghost in the wind... in the wind...

I'm not sure I'm confused and afraid
I'm alone every night, every day... every day

And I love you so much, it's like a hand squeezing my heart
And I feel your pain, you want so bad to be an ordinary guy

Alienation.... Alienation....

Open up your eyes, see the light within
Open up your heart, let me in...

I'm not like you, I am not so self-aware
I don't have those filters, they're not there... not there...

*Sometimes people tell me they can't download my music, it only streams, and they aren't sure how to save it to their computer. In that case, here is the song in a zipped file, simply unzip it after you download it.

Here's how to download an MP3:

  • Internet Explorer users, right-click the song title and choose “Save Target As”.
  • Firefox users right-click and choose “Save Link As”.

There are 2 formats available: the free 320 kbps MP3 (which is the highest quality you can get in MP3 format and is nearly CD quality), or, if you are a hi-fidelity audiophile like me you can buy the lossless CD quality .flacs from my RECORD STORE for $0.99 per song. If you have a decent stereo system and care about the quality of your music you CAN hear the difference.

I also sell handmade numbered CDs with cool artwork (made by me and my son Muggy), filled with things like a full color booklet, 2 brilliantly colored high quality CDs (it is a double album), an autographed card, and the "DR" red wax seal, but they are very time consuming and expensive to make. If you want to have one, they are $20.00. CLICK HERE to check out my store. (I like CDs, and I know a lot of people are like me: you want a hard copy that you can play in your car CD player, or take to a friend's house, or play in your home stereo, etc.

Earbuds and iPhones and crappy MP3s just don't do it for me, but when you have a studio and are your own engineer the quality of sond really matters to you and your bandmates. And BTW, I don't care if one of your friends rip a copy - MP3s and .flacs are bandwidth hogs - go for it! I just want people to hear the music .)

SONG INFORMATION AND NOTES:

Everyday I walk into school with Muggy, and I see a blanket of seriousness fall over his demeanor. He frequently reaches out and holds my hand, which he is a little old for compared to the other kids. He could not care less, I think holding the old man's hand gives him a sense of comfort, and I'm proud of the way he faces his fears. Holding hands walking into school, it's like we are surrounded by an invisible shield that conveys a sense of "it's us against the world, buddy".

UPDATE: Well, he's grown out of that phase - this year he has insisted on being dropped off in front of the school, "like the other kids". He jumps out of the truck with a, "bye, dad!", slams the truck door and heads inside. Maybe I should change the title of this song to "Acceptance".

UPDATE 2: Muggy is now in 8th grade, dear Lord how time flys. He goes for 1/2 days, and rides the bus to school, and I pick him up a little before noon. Over the years he has made a great core of really good kids who are his best friends, some on the autism spectrum, others not. We tend to have a lot of get togethers where the kids come over to our house and feast and drink soda, and we usually build a big bonfire and play games, swim, do art projects, etc. They all know, "go to the Ryder's house - it's always a blast! lol". He continues to progress mentally and socially, I am very proud of him - he is a kind, generous, helpful, respectful kid. I wish I could freeze time and just stay in this place forever, but then I wouldn't have grandkids which is my dearest hope before I kick the bucket. Lord willing, that day will come when I hold his little baby in my arms.
